Addressing the Returned and Services League (RSL) WA State Congress in Perth, Mr Snowdon said it was an honour to represent the Government on veterans’ issues and he looked forward to strengthening the bonds between the Department and the RSL.

“It’s a great opportunity for me to hear issues and suggestions first hand,” Mr Snowdon said.

“Working together with ex-service organisations, this government will deliver better services and support to the veteran community.”

Mr Snowdon spoke of the impact of war on the Western Australian community from Federation.

“There is no doubt Western Australia has played a significant role in past and current conflicts.

“Some of the first at Gallipoli were from Western Australian battalions, Fremantle was a hive of activity for allied ships in the Second Wold War and generations of servicemen and women have served our country proud in the years since.”

Mr Snowdon brings defence experience to the Veterans’ Affairs portfolio, previously serving as Minister for Defence Science and Personnel in 2007.
